Our Role Delivering Tenders

The Australian electricity sector is undergoing rapid transformation driven by the combined forces of decarbonisation in the face of climate change, ageing thermal generation plants and the rapid development of clean energy technologies.

Significant investment in new generation and storage capacity is required to secure a smooth transformation that ensures strong economic benefits to Australian households, businesses and communities. Our tenders are designed to help accelerate the energy transition by offering products that help turn project plans into energy infrastructure and deliver the energy that is needed at the right cost and time.

NSW Energy Infrastructure Roadmap

As the appointed Consumer Trustee under the NSW Energy Infrastructure Roadmap, we have a mandate to act independently and in the long-term financial interests of NSW electricity consumers. This responsibility is at the core of our work under the Roadmap.

In this capacity we plan and co-ordinate long-term investment in built energy infrastructure, conducting competitive tenders to bring forward projects with the greatest potential to help the state meet its future energy needs.

We incentivise these new investments in electricity generation, storage and firming infrastructure through Long-Term Energy Service Agreements and network access rights in Renewable Energy Zones.

Capacity Investment Scheme

AEMO and AEMO Services (ASL) have been engaged to support the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) South Australia-Victoria (SA-Vic) Tender.

AEMO with support from ASL will conduct the competitive tender process that will enable the Australian Government to determine which projects the CIS SA-Vic Tender should support.

The CIS will complement and work alongside existing state and territory schemes to help deliver the National Energy Transformation Partnership.
