The Capacity Investment Scheme The Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 2 – Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Dispatchable Capacity is complete.

 

The outcome of the CIS Tender 2 has been announced by the Australian Government , subject to contract execution between the project proponents and the Australian Government.

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy has selected 4 Projects, which will provide 2,595 MWh of clean dispatchable capacity across the WEM.

The Tender opened on 22 July 2024 and sought an indicative target of 2,000 MWh of clean dispatchable capacity across the WEM.

Projects in Tender 2 were required to be located in Western Australia, connecting to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) as defined by the Electricity Industry Act 2004 (WA). Projects were required to have a minimum storage duration of two hours and a minimum size of 30 MW. The successful projects met all eligibility criteria requirements and performed strongly in the merit assessment.

Benefits of the selected projects

Collectively, the selected projects:

  • Will provide power to support the peak load for over 600,000 households in WA for four hours

  • Have strong and meaningful local community and First Nations, community, employment and local content commitments that will be contractually binding.

  • Will deliver $145 million of shared benefits for their local communities, $41.5 million worth of initiatives for local First Nations groups, $712 million in local content, and $63.5 million towards local employment.
