In a landmark achievement for New South Wales’ energy transition, Iberdrola Australia’s Flyers Creek Wind Farm has become the first project to officially commence commercial operations with a Long-Term Energy Service Agreement (LTESA).
Located outside of Orange, NSW, Flyers Creek Wind Farm comprises 38 turbines capable of delivering about 140 MW* of clean energy to the grid.
The project was awarded a generation LTESA under NSW Roadmap Tender Round 4, which was announced in June 2024.
AEMO Services’ General Manager Commercial, Thimo Mueller, said commercial operations for Flyers Creek Wind Farm marked a significant milestone for the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.
We now begin to see the LTESA mechanism in process, supporting the operation of new renewable energy generation for New South Wales consumers,” Mr Mueller said.
Flyers Creek is the first project with an LTESA to come online, having been at an advanced development stage compared to other projects awarded LTESAs under the past five NSW Roadmap tender rounds.
The LTESA product and tender process is designed to accommodate projects across all stages of development and accelerate investment, and Iberdrola made an investment decision knowing Flyers Creek would be eligible for a Generation LTESA in future.”
Flyers Creek Wind Farm is the first to commence commercial operations of the 18 projects awarded LTESAs under the past five NSW Roadmap tenders. Once operational, these projects will deliver a combined 2,452 MW generation capacity, 18,382 MWh long duration storage and 2,980 MWh firming capacity to the energy grid.
*Nameplate capacity for Flyer’s Creek Wind Farm is 145 MW
