Statement

AEMO Services, as the NSW Consumer Trustee, has determined it is in the long-term financial interests of NSW electricity customers that the next competitive tender for generation infrastructure in NSW be conducted as part of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS).

This means the scheduled Q4 2024 NSW generation infrastructure tender for Long-Term Energy Service Agreements will not proceed.

This decision follows the publication of an indicative generation infrastructure allocation of 7.1GW for NSW as part of the CIS, subject to the finalisation of a Renewable Energy Transformation Agreement. This includes an indicative minimum allocation of 2.2GW for NSW as part of CIS Tender 4 – NEM Generation, which opened for bids on 13 December 2024. Projects that would have been eligible to bid for a generation Long-Term Energy Service Agreement (LTESA) may be able to bid in CIS Tender 4 – NEM Generation.

Registration for CIS Tender 4 – NEM Generation is open until 11 February 2025.

The next tender for Long-Duration Storage (LDS) in NSW is expected to open as planned in Q2 2025.
